We often say that the American body armor NIJ standard grade, official name is: the national institute of justice “body armor ballistic protection standard”, it is not US Army grade standard for military body armor, but does not interfere with it become the most popular, the most comprehensive, most cited and widely accepted standards. There are several versions of the standard, most of which currently follow Version 06, with the latest version 07 starting in 2021.

The level 4 body armor plate used in the test is rated 06 version NIJ4. Can resist.30-60 shells at distances of 5-15 m using M2 armor-piercing shells at a muzzle velocity of 878 m/s. The insert plate is made of small square block ceramic plates and protected by polymer foam.

The target plate simulates the NIJ standard as much as possible, and the insert plate is tied to the clay. The bullets involved in the test were: 300WM with M2 piercing head, 300WM with strong charge with M2 piercing head, 300WM with M80A1 bare steel piercing head, and M993 tungsten alloy piercing bullet.

The first round, the M2 armour-piercing 300MW bullet, hit the top left and reached a velocity of 2,923 ft/s. This was followed by the use of the M2 armor-piercing head with a strong charge of 300MW, which hit the top right, with a measured velocity of 3152 ft/s. Neither of the M2 armor-piercing bullets penetrate the plate.

The third round, using an M993 tungsten piercing bullet, struck in the lower left and had a velocity of 2,976 ft/s. The M993 pierced the plate and left a good-sized hole in the clay behind it.

Finally, the 300WM bullet, using the M80A1 bare-steel armor piercing head, hit the lower right and reached a velocity of 3,358 ft/s (about 1023.5 m/s), still failing to penetrate the plate

The test was later terminated when the tester found that the plate had many cracks and the structure was broken. It can be seen that the structure and material of the warhead are more important to the piercing effect than the muzzle velocity.
